Former Diploma student is Gribov Medallist

Freddy Cachazo, former ICTP Diploma Student, wins a major EPS award

A former high energy physics diploma student from ICTP, Freddy Cachazo, was awarded the Gribov Medal on 20 July 2009 at a High Energy Physics Conference held in Krakow, Poland, by the European Physical Society (EPS). The Gribov Medal, conferred by EPS once every two years, recognises a young physicist below the age of 35 “for outstanding work performed in the field of theoretical particle physics and/or field theory.”

Cachazo, who hails from Venezuela, currently holds a faculty position at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Ontario, Canada. He was recognised for his contribution “to significant simplifications in the calculation of scattering amplitudes in both gauge theories and gravity ones.”

Cachazo will be visiting ICTP to present a seminar titled "S-Matrix Theory" on 23 July. He took the high energy physics diploma course at ICTP in 1996.
